English abstract
The study aimed to identify the level of the effect of the use of the method of exploration in the academic achievement in the social studies for the female students of the basic tenth grade and their motivation towards learning the subject. The study followed the semi-experimental method, and to achieve the objectives of this study, the researcher used in this study a short achievement test based on the educational assessment document for the social studies for the basic tenth grade for the academic year 2017/2018, in order to measure the impact of the method of exploration in the achievement of the students of the basic tenth grade in the social studies. The second tool was to measure the motivation towards the subject.
The sample consisted of (37) female students of the basic tenth grade, and distributed randomly to two groups; an experimental group of 19 students and the control group of 18 students. In order to answer the questions of the study, the researcher used the coefficient of (Cronbach - Alpha) to calculate the coefficient of stability, the Pearson correlation coefficient, the half-split method, the arithmetical averages and the standard deviations, and the ŋ2 test for hypothesis testing.
The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the average score of the experimental group and the average score of the control group students in the achievement test in the social studies subject in the total score of the test. The differences were in favor of the female students sample in the experimental group.
Moreover, the method of exploration as a modern strategy in the teaching of social studies, contributed (31.2%) of the level of achievement of students in the experimental group in the subject of social studies.
There were no statistically significant differences at the level of significance
between the averages of the score of the students of the basic tenth grade in the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate in their motivation towards the subject of social studies in the pre and post application of the scale of motivation towards the subject.
The method of exploration as a modern strategy in the teaching of social studies, contributed only 3.4% of the level of motivation of the basic tenth grade students towards the social studies.
One of the most important recommendations concluded by the researcher in this study is the use of the method of exploration in the teaching of social studies especially in the lessons of the unit of geography and the inclusion of the book of social studies for the 10th basic grade some educational activities designed according to the method of exploration and its scientific steps.
