English abstract
The study aims to develop a proposal to increase the level of participation of students of Sultan Qaboos University in sports activities. The researcher used the descriptive methodology as he applied a questionnaire consisting of (68) paragraphs on a random sample consisting of (964) students from several colleges of the university. The researcher used the arithmetic average, standard deviation, Independent Samples T Test and the ONE WAY ANOVA Analysis for statistical data processing.
The study concludes that health and physical incentives were ranked first, while psychological incentives came second, and obstacles to exercise of sports activities were ranked third, administrative incentives came fourth, academic incentives came fifth, moral incentives came sixth, and material incentives came seventh. In addition, study findings indicate that there are statistically significant differences between sample responses for the moral incentives, psychological incentives, and obstacles to the exercise of sports activities due to the gender variable, for the benefit of males, as well as statistically significant differences between sample responses for health, physical, material, psychological, and administrative incentives due to the colleges variable for the benefit of the humanitarian faculties. The study also shows that there are statistically significant differences in academic and administrative incentives due to year variable for the benefit of first year students. Moreover, the study presents a proposal to increase the level of participation of students of Sultan Qaboos University in sports activities. The researcher recommends implementing this proposal in Sultan Qaboos University.
