English abstract
This study aims to identify " The Role of Islamic Education Teachers in the Developing its Curriculum in Oman" by seeking answers to certain questions. The study sample consisted of (212) male and female teachers of the Islamic Education in cycle II on Basic Education schools related to the following directorates: (Muscat Governorate, AlBatinah South, AlBatinah North) in the Sultanate of Oman for the academic year 2008/2009.
To answer the Study Questionnaire, the researcher used Questionnaire, which included three parts: 1) The role of Islamic Education teachers in the development of Islamic Education curricula. 2) The most preferred methods by Islamic Education teachers in the development of Islamic Education curricula. 3) The challenges that limit the participation of Islamic Education teachers in the development of Islamic Education curricula.
Key findings of this study are as followings:
1. weakness of participation by teachers in the development of Islamic Education curricula in the Sultanate of Oman. 2. There are no statistically significant differences of teachers participation level in the development of Islamic Education curricula as related to both gender (male / female). 3. There are no statistically significant differences of the role of Islamic Studies Teachers in the curricula development as related to teaching experience. 4. Islamic Education teachers prefer most the traditional and written methods in the participation of curriculum development, which don't require them to exert effort or time. However, they don't prefer modern methods such as making good use of education studies and scientific researches or participating through the Internet. 5. Most of the challenges that limit the participation of Islamic Education teachers in Curriculum development are related to schooling load, poor preparation, lack of encouragement and time constraints.
This study has brought up some recommendations: Islamic Education Teachers should be given more opportunities to participate in curriculum development and Training courses and workshops are to be held in order to qualify Islamic Education teachers to gain necessary skills in curriculum development.
