English abstract
The current study aimed to investigate depression symptoms among students at post-basic education stage in Al Dakhiliya Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. The study also aimed to explore whether those symptoms affected by taking PE course or not, and to examine gender differences and class grade in depression symptoms.
VT. (grades 11 and 1") students were randomly chosen from Aldakhliya Governorate public schools. Half of them were enrolled in PE course and the other half were not. All participants completed Beck Depression Inventory Version two (BDI-II) and demographic questions.
The results of the study indicated that 11,9% of the students were not having depression symptoms, while rs% of the students have mild depression symptoms, and 4,% have intermediate depression symptoms.
The study also revealed that students enrolled in PE course were significantly less depressed than other students counterparts, and that there were no statistical differences in depression symptoms according to gender and class grades variables.
Finally, the study concluded that participation in PE course may affect positively students' psychological wellbeing, thus it recommended that PE should be mandatory requirement of all students.
