English abstract
This study aimed at investigating some factors leading to physics low, achievement of students at general secondary certificate (science stream) as viewed by students, teachers and supervisors. The population of this study consisted of all general secondary certificate students enrolled in the science stream, their teachers and supervisors of physics in the sultanate of Oman at the academic year 2003-2004. The sample of this study consisted of "581" students (290 male, 291 female), "216" teachers (101 male, 115 female) and "38" supervisors (29 male, 9 female), selected randomly. For the purpose of the study, two questionnaires were developed by the researcher, one for students consisting from (45) items, whereas the teachers and supervisors questionnaire is consisting from (55) items. The validity of questionnaires was carried out through panel of (33) judges. The reliability was calculated by Cronbach alpha coefficients which found to be (0.86), (0.91) respectively. Results refueled that the factors leading to low achievement from students views can be implicit into five main categories; methods of assessment and evaluation, textbook, the resources and facilities, teachers and students respectively. The teachers highlighted the following: textbook and teacher's guide book, student, methods of assessment and evaluation, the resources and facilities, and teacher respectively. However supervisors indicated these factors, textbook and teacher's guide book, student, teacher, methods of assessment and evaluation and the resources and facilities respectively. Moreover, there were statistically significant differences at (a<0.05) in: students, teachers, supervisors views to these factors in pivots: student, teacher and methods of assessment and evaluation, - student views to these factors related to: gender in pivots of: textbook, student, teacher and the resources and facilities) and achievement level (in pivots of; textbook and student). Furthermore, students in all regions ordered the first three pivots in the some manner to be : methods of assessment and evaluation, textbook and the resources and facilities, despite the disagreement of ordering the 4th and Sth pivots; student and teacher. On the basis of the findings above, the study recommended the following: - Adopting accurate to follow the educational standards in the GSCE, and ensuring of the set prescribed specifications, - Considering issues relating to teaching plan, students problems, individual differences and using different teaching methods.
