English abstract
The study had three aims: (1) To explore how much the concept of theory of multiple intelligences, which was developed by Gardner (1983), is known to cycle-one female teachers in Omani schools. (2) To explore the most important intelligences to the teachers and the most frequently used ones. (3) To investigate the teachers' differences in using each of the eight intelligences which may be attributed to three variables: the subjects they teach, the years of experience and the regions they belong to. The sample of the study consisted of (295) female teachers from three regions (Muscat, Batinah North and Batinah South) which represented (8%) of the study population. A questionnaire of (48) statements of teaching practices was developed by the researcher to measure the eight intelligences (Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, Logical, Linguistic, Natural, Musical, Spatial and Body-kinesthetic). Frequencies, percentages, Standard deviations, one way ANOVA and T-test were used to analyze the data of the study. The results showed that very few teachers knew the concept of multiple intelligences but they used teaching practices which generally develop the eight intelligences. Also it was found that there were significant differences among the teachers attributed to the subjects they teach in using five intelligences: spatial, logical, natural, linguistic, and musical intelligences. Also significant differences were found in using interpersonal, natural, and logical intelligences attributed to the regions. But there weren't significant differences in using the eight intelligences attributed to the years of experiences.
