English abstract
This study aimed at determining the effectiveness of a proposed educational unit of social studies in developing political awareness in the 11- grade students.For achieving this goal, the researcher designed an instructional unit, named as: "Omani politics ... consultation and peace direction", in addition to a teacher's guide to help in teaching it, and a scale measuring political awareness which consists of two components: knowledge and attitudes.
After ensuring the reliability and the validity of the study tools, it was applied on a group of (30) students, on an experimental basis. This group was chosen from Yarub bin Balarab school for boys (11-12) Grades, in North Al-batina region.This study reached the following results:
1-There are statistically significant differences at a level of (a=0.05), in the two components, knowledge components and attitude components in measuring the political awareness, which indicates the effectiveness of the proposed instructional unit of social studies in developing the political awareness 11-grade students.
2-There is a connecting statistical relation, at a level of (a=0.05), between the knowledge component and the attitude component, as components of measuring the political awareness.
The researcher recommended getting benefits from the suggested educational unit in the social studies curriculum for the 11- grade students in the Sultanate of Oman.
