English abstract
The study aimed to investigate the Holland's career personality types and their relation to gender and academic achievement among 650 students(285 males, 365 females) in Muscat region in the Sultanate of Oman.
The career personality type was measured using the Self Directed Search Scale designed by John Holland. Acceptable reliability coefficients were obtained for the scale.
To answer the study questions, frequencies, percentages, chi-square, means, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and One-way ANOVA were applied. The results indicated that a variable and distributions for the sample among career personality types were obtained. The results showed that males are mostly realistic or motoric but females are mostly social and artistic. The results among academic achievement variable were, the high academic achievement students were intellectual whereas low academic achievement students were realistic.
The results were interpreted and discussed in the light of the theoretical background and previous related studies. In the light of the study results, some recommendations have been provided.
