Oman's Policy Towards Extremism
This study seeks to contribute to a better understanding of what factors explain Oman's exceptionalism from regional and global trends of burgeoning extremism. So why is Oman different from others cases and what has enabled it to achieve this exceptional situation? Is it happening by chance according to certain structural conditions, such as geographical or historical factors, or through identifiable, deliberative measures and policies, which would point instead to the importance of human agency in allowing this unique situation to persist? And if agency does play a major role in Oman's case, are the policies of political and religious authorities imposed according to a top-down, elite approach, or are they in fact reflecting Omani society and culture? The answer to this puzzle is possibly both.
