English abstract
The purpose of this study is identify the distribution of identity status among the college students and how to extend the students represent the dimension structure of knowledge, emotional and behavioral citizenship as well as temporal dimensions (past, Present & Future), furthermore to investigate the relationship between the identity status and the stages of citizenship among the students of some higher privatization institutes in Sultanate of Oman. The examined sample of research was around (500) students from University of Buraimi, Arab Open University and Sur University College for the academic year 2016/2017. The researcher has applied the descriptive approach and they use two measures, one of them objective scale and ego identity scale, which have been developed by Adams and Bennion to the overview of Marcia, that also relied on Erikson scale in developing of ego and also applied of performance of citizenship measure prepared by (Al Toubi and others 2016).
The Results of study were as following:
The arrangement of status related to Ideological identity is: achievement,
diffusion, foreclosure and moratorium. Meanwhile the most widespread status
related to the social identity are: achievement, moratorium, foreclosure and diffusion.
The level of representation of examined sample for cognitive, behavior & emotional dimensions structure were moderate and balanced. The emotional dimension came at first, followed by behavioral dimension and cognitive dimension came at the end. - The level of representation of examined sample in the temporal orientation for citizenship was moderate, where time future came at the first, followed by minimum difference present time and then past time.
There is no statistically significant differences in the ideological and social identity attributable to gender or academic year variable.
There is no any statistically significant differences in the level of representation of concepts of citizenship attributable to gender or academic year variable. There is no any statistically significant differences in the representation of concepts of citizenship attributable to ideological identity status in the stage of achievement, diffusion for the interest of achievement as well as there is significant differences in the representation of concepts of citizenship attributable to the social identity rank in respect of achievement. There is correlative significant relationship between the identity status in
ideological & social dimensions as well as between the cognitive, behavioral & emotional citizenship dimensions and temporal orientation dimension. this research recommends benefiting from its results to improve & enhance the programs that attributed in the support of identity which reflected positively on the efficient identity.
