This study analyzes the narrative discourse of Ismail Fahd Ismail's novels through
the lens of enunciative narratology, focusing on the use of language, enunciation,
and narration to convey ideas, portray characters, and depict events. The research
plan comprises an introduction and three chapters.
The introduction provides an overview of Kuwaiti narrative achievements,
particularly in the novel genre, and underscores the study's significance, rationale,
problematics, hypotheses, methodology, and encountered challenges.
The study's chapters explore issues pertinent to enunciative narratology, such as the
role of enunciation and subjectivity in discourse, the concept of the speaker's identity
in the novel, its relation to polyphony and dialogism, and linguistic diversity. The
analysis highlights the speaker's ability to articulate their worldview through
narration and examines the impact of enunciation on constructing narrative
discourse. It also investigates the function of pronouns in expressing subjectivity in
narrative texts, their usage to enhance the speaker-audience connection, and the
resultant effect on the reader's experience and comprehension of characters and
events.
The study further examines the effectiveness of anachronism in deepening narration
and its emotional impact, emphasizing the interplay of past and present events and
their influence on characters. This approach enriches the reading experience by
creating semantic possibilities and making the text open to interpretation.
An analysis of narrative voices is provided, illustrating their influence on reader
interaction, the narrative style of different storytellers, and directing the reader's
understanding of events. A dedicated section addresses the multiplicity of discourses
in narrative texts, contextualized by the social and political complexities depicted in
Ismail Fahd Ismail's novels, which include ambiguous pronunciations to broaden
interpretive scope and enhance dialogic interaction between text and reader. This
interpretive depth encourages readers to explore multiple meanings.
The concept of mental spaces and their role in constructing narrative worlds and
embodying characters' internal experiences is also addressed, highlighting how these
spaces can enhance reader interaction with the text. The roles and values contributing
to character development and the portrayal of social and cultural experiences are not
overlooked. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of conceptual blending in
deepening textual meanings, exploring possible worlds, and different human
experience potentials, thereby enhancing readers' imaginative capabilities and
interaction with the text.
The enunciative narratology methodology significantly aided in analyzing Ismail
Fahd Ismail's narrative discourse, illustrating how these techniques enrich narrative
language and create multiple interpretive possibilities. Key findings include
determining levels of narrative discourse in the corpus, elucidating the relationship
between the speaking self (the writer), the speaker (the narrator), and the enunciating
self (the character) through pronoun usage, and highlighting the narrative
development in Ismail Fahd Ismail's work.
The findings contribute to the development of new critical tools and a deeper
understanding of literary texts, providing inspiration for emerging writers to explore
innovative techniques in novel writing.

تحلل هذه الدراسة خطاب إسماعيل فهد إسماعيل الروائي في ضوء السرديات التلفظية، وتقف على طرائق استعمال اللغة والتلفظ والسرد لإيصال الأفكار وتجسيد الشخصيات و تصوير الاحداث. واشتملت خطة البحث على مقد مة وثلاثة فصول، فاستهللنا المقدمة بإلقاء نظرة إجمالية على المنجز السردي الكويتي بعامة، والسرد الروائي بخاصة، وأتينا على ذكر أهمية هذه الدراسة ومسوغاتها وإشكاليتها وفرضياتها، والمنهج الذي عالجنا به موضوع الدراسة، والصعوبات التي واجهتنا. ناقشنا في فصول هذه الدراسة القضايا ذات الصلة بالسرديات التلفظية مثل دور التلفظ والذاتية في الخطاب.
