This study aimed at determining the effectiveness of using animation in teaching social studies on the immediate and delayed achievement of grade-ten students in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. The study sample consisted of (60) grade ten students of Ahmed Al-Kabi school for basic education. These students were divided into two groups of (30) students: an experimental group and a control group. Animations were used in teaching the experimental group while the control group was taught using the regular method. To answer the two questions of the study, a program of animations about the "Creation and Composition of Earth" was designed. To make sure of its validity, it was reviewed by (21) specialists. The researcher also developed an achievement test consisting of (50) items in accordance with Bloom's three levels (Recalling, Comprehension, and Application) which was also reviewed by (14) specialists to make sure of its validity. The test was administrated to 32 students from another school, and the Alpha Cronbach was (0.89). The results of the study showed statistically significant difference between the average scores of the two groups (experimental and control) in the immediate achievement test as a whole, and in all Bloom's three levels (Recalling, Comprehension, and Application), in favor of the experimental group. The results also revealed statistically significant difference between the average scores of the two groups (experimental and control) in the delayed achievement test as a whole, and in all Bloom's three levels (Recalling, Comprehension, and Application), in favor of the experimental group. In view of the study results, the researcher recommends using animations as a teaching aid. He also recommends more studies of this type to be carried out on teaching other subjects, and in other grades.
