This study aimed to investigate the status quo of Islamic studies teachers' use of teaching methods in Basic Education classes (Grades 5-10) through answering the following questions: 1. What are the most frequently used teaching methods by Islamic studies teachers in classes (5-10) of Basic Education? 2. To what extent do they use the procedures of each of those teaching methods in classes (5-10) of Basic Education? 3. Are there any statistically significant differences in the use of the specified methods that can be attributed to gender? The sample of this study consisted of 32 teachers who teach classes (5-10) of basic education. They were randomly chosen from (8) schools affiliated to the Education Directorate of the Dakhiliya Region. To answer the questions of this study, the researcher developed/ designed an observation sheet that comprised 11 methods. The following are the most important findings of present study . The most frequently used teaching methods by Islamic studies teachers in classes (5-10) of basic education are dialogue and discussion, cooperative learning and lecturing respectively and the least frequently used methods are learning by games, problem solving and deductive methods. 1. The degree of Islamic studies teachers' use of procedures of each of those specific teaching methods in classes (5-10) of basic education ranged between high and moderate. 2. There are no statistically significant differences at the level (a= 0.5) attributed to the gender variable in Islamic studies teachers' use of the specified teaching methods except deductive method and in favor of males. The following are the main recommendations made by the researcher in the light of the findings of the study. - A need is felt for more training courses and workshops focusing specially on the practical aspects of the up-to-date teaching methods.. Teacher guides need to include model lesson plans illustrating the use of modem lessons in teaching Islamic Studies. Islamic studies teachers should be provided with educational tools, instruments for teaching Islamic studies because they play a an important role in activating modern teaching methods.
