This quantitative study is based on Fleming's VARK model and presents the results of an investigation into the preferred learning styles of Grade 10 students attending schools in Oman. It explores the potential for any significant differences between the preferred learning styles of males and females, as well as the relationship between learning style and academic achievement.The analysis of students' preferred learning styles forms an important step in the process of teaching and learning. Specifically, it assists in the selection and adoption of suitable teaching method/s and the development of appropriate learning material. However, school students have previously been overlooked in research into learning styles. This research is therefore significant in its contribution to the continued assessment of the relationship between learning style and academic achievement, in order to enhance teacher efficacy and ensure student success The questionnaire administered to 265 students from a number of Omani schools in South Al Batinah governorate revealed that the participants demonstrated a strong preference for kinaesthetic learning style. The results indicated that, when learning the English language, male students demonstrated a greater preference for visual learning styles, while female students preferred auditory, R\W (read \write) and kinaesthetic learning styles. In addition, the ANOVA results indicated a lack of any significant difference between students' preferred learning styles and their performance in acquiring the English language.
